WordCamp San Francisco and WordPress 3.6

It’s been just over a week now since WordCamp San Francisco 2013, and I’m still processing all the amazing information shared by the epic lineup of speakers.

I attended via live stream, which in Australia, meant getting up at 1:45am both days, grabbing a coffee, and sitting watching my computer screen until ~10:00am. Then heading back to bed a couple of hours later to start again.

But it was well worth it!

If you didn’t catch the live stream though, all the talks are gradually making their way on to WordPress.tv. In particular, you’ll be wanting to catch this year’s ‘State of the Word‘ by Matt Mullenweg (co-founder of WordPress’ and founder of Automattic), where he gives a run down on the last 12 months of WordPress, and his vision for the future of WordPress. (Make sure to watch the Q&A session afterwards too!)

If you’re after a TL;DR version of the State of the Word, I did a general round up where you can see some notes and links to good summary articles of the content. In particular Brian Krogsgard’s post on Post Status was published almost as soon as Matt finished speaking, and is a great read.

Release during an event? No, thank you.

One thing people were hopeful to see happen at WordCamp San Francisco was the release of WordPress 3.6. However, the development team made the sensible decision not to release just prior to, or during, the event but instead released a week later.

WordPress 3.6 “Oscar” is now out!
